In response to recent flooding in Manila and most parts of Luzon, Mayor Honey Lacuna has advised residents to seek preventive treatment against leptospirosis if they’ve been exposed to floodwaters. Lacuna, a trained physician, emphasized the bacterial infection’s dangers, which can be contracted from water contaminated with rat urine. She recommended protective gear for those forced to navigate floodwaters and urged thorough hygiene practices to reduce exposure. With cases often spiking during the rainy season, this precautionary measure aims to minimize public health risks.
