A Christian group is urging the Baguio City Council to block the planned Baguio Horror Festival set for October 24 to 25, arguing that the event’s themes clash with the city’s values and public image.
The group raised concerns over festival elements tied to death, violence, and the occult, saying these may not be appropriate for a city known for family tourism, culture, education, and community-centered events. It asked officials to deny the necessary permits for the festival.
Instead of a horror-themed event, the group proposed alternatives such as a harvest festival, cultural parade, or other family-friendly programs that it said would better reflect Baguio’s identity and traditions.
The appeal now puts the issue before local officials, who may have to weigh freedom of expression, tourism programming, public sentiment, and community standards. For organizers and critics alike, the question is no longer just whether a horror festival can draw crowds — but whether Baguio wants that kind of event attached to its name.
As the proposed dates draw closer, the City Council’s decision will determine whether the festival proceeds, is modified, or is stopped before it reaches the public stage.
