The CIDG has served a subpoena duces tecum on Sen. Ronald โBatoโ dela Rosa in connection with its drug war investigationโand they didnโt just send it to one address. Police operatives served it at his Davao residence and again at his Senate office on Monday, with a directive for him to appear on May 14 (Thursday), 10:00 a.m., at Camp Crame.
In Davao, CIDG said they tried to personally serve it at his home in Monteritz Subdivision, Brgy. Matina Crossing, but Dela Rosa wasnโt there. So they went for substituted serviceโleaving the document with his caretaker, Frederick Johnson, after โreasonable effortsโ were made to locate him.
When CIDG brought the subpoena to Dela Rosaโs Senate office, the senatorโs staff refused to signโciting โinstructions.โ CIDGโs chief investigator, Capt. Larry Ray, said it still counts on their end because the staff accepted the copy, signed or not.
This subpoena isnโt just a โshow upโ noticeโit also demands documents/records tied to the probe. And CIDG didnโt mince words on the consequence: non-compliance without valid justification can open the door to an indirect contempt case. The subpoena leans on RA 10973, the law signed in 2018 that authorizes the PNP chief and CIDG leadership to issue subpoenas in CIDG investigations.
