MANILA – Scattered rain showers are expected to drench the eastern sections of Luzon, as well as parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, on Friday due to easterly winds, according to the weather bureau.
In its 4 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that easterlies are anticipated to impact the eastern parts of Luzon and the Visayas.
Additionally, PAGASA noted that a tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a severe tropical storm. Named Shanshan internationally, the storm was located 2,135 km east of Central Luzon as of 3 a.m. Friday.
Shanshan remains nearly stationary, with maximum sustained winds of 100 kph and gusts reaching up to 125 kph, according to PAGASA.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” is expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to areas such as the Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. PAGASA has issued warnings of potential flash floods or landslides due to occasional moderate to heavy rains.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail across the rest of the country.
