The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – Regional Fisheries Office I (BFAR RFO I) distributed 60,000 bangus (milkfish) fry to a fishermen’s group in Pangasinan as part of efforts to support aquaculture and local livelihoods.
The turnover was conducted at the BFAR Bangus Fry Holding Facility located at the Regional Mariculture Technology Demonstration Center (RMaTDeC) in Lucap, Alaminos City. The fry were received by the Balagan Agri-Aqua Association, a member of the Samahang Magbababngus ng Pangasinan (SAMAPA), led by its president Marcos Lopez, in the presence of SAMAPA Area Manager William Go.
BFAR said the distribution is part of broader efforts to boost bangus production in the region. The agency noted that the fry are expected to help increase yields for fish farmers in the coming months and support a steady supply of bangus in the market.
The distributed fry were sourced from eggs provided by Feedmix Inc. under the Hatchery Tulungan initiative, a public-private collaboration aimed at supporting the fisheries industry.
BFAR I said the program is part of ongoing measures to strengthen food security and improve the capacity of coastal communities.
Through partnerships with organizations such as SAMAPA, the agency said it continues to extend support to fisherfolk in need.
