Two individuals were arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted in Barangay Bong-ao, Valencia, Negros Oriental, on November 21, 2024. The suspects, aged 27 and 24, are alleged members of a drug trafficking network operating in the province.
The operation, executed by the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) in coordination with local law enforcement, resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as “shabu,” and drug paraphernalia. The quantity of drugs recovered is yet to be disclosed, but authorities confirmed that the suspects were in possession of the illegal substance at the time of their arrest.
Both suspects are classified as high-value individuals (HVIs) in the government’s anti-drug campaign, indicating their significant role in the illegal drug trade. Investigators are working to trace their supply chain and identify their connections within the network.
Brig. Gen. John B. Mirano, director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group (DEG), praised the success of the operation. “This arrest underscores our commitment to dismantling drug syndicates in Negros Oriental. It sends a clear message that illegal drug activities will not be tolerated,” he said.
The PNP has intensified its anti-drug efforts in the region following a rise in drug-related incidents. Residents have been encouraged to report suspicious activities to local authorities, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in combating illegal drugs.
The suspects are currently detained at the Valencia Municipal Police Station, facing charges for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
