Cavite 4th District Rep. Kiko Barzaga is back out after posting bail in a cyberlibel case that triggered a warrant for his arrest. Police confirmed Barzaga posted โฑ384,000 bail late Monday night before the Makati City RTC Branch 147, and was released shortly after.
Barzaga surrendered earlier that evening at the Dasmariรฑas Component City Police Station after the Makati court issued a warrant over eight counts of alleged violations of Section 4(c) of RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act)โthe provision used for cyberlibel-related complaints.
The case traces back to Barzagaโs public allegations that members of the National Unity Party (NUP) were bribed by a business figure to support then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez. Those claims are now at the center of cyberlibel complaints filed by businessman Enrique Razon, Antipolo Rep. Ronaldo Puno, and Manila Rep. Rolando Valeriano.
Barzagaโs free for nowโbut the fight moves to court, with the cyberlibel charges hanging on whether his accusations can be backed up as fact, protected speech, or considered damaging claims without legal basis.
