A coordinated operation by the Silay City Police and the Intelligence Unit of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office resulted in the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker on November 23, 2024, in Barangay Lantad, Silay City.
The suspect, identified by the alias “Benjie,” is a 46-year-old resident known for his alleged involvement in the local drug trade. Law enforcement officers served a search warrant at approximately 10:25 AM, uncovering a significant cache of illegal drugs, paraphernalia, and other items indicative of drug trafficking activities.
Authorities have classified “Benjie” as a high-value individual (HVI) due to his alleged role in a wider network of drug operations in the province. His arrest marks a critical step in the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) ongoing campaign to dismantle drug distribution networks.
The operation followed months of surveillance and intelligence gathering by local and provincial law enforcement agencies. Officials believe the apprehension of “Benjie” will provide leads to further disrupt drug trafficking activities in Silay City and neighboring areas.
Silay City Police Chief Col. Jose Maravilla emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating illegal drugs. “This arrest is the result of coordinated efforts and intelligence sharing. We encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods,” Maravilla stated.
The PNP has intensified its anti-drug operations in Negros Occidental under the current administration, focusing on high-value targets and reducing the availability of illegal substances in communities. Silay City’s latest operation adds to a series of recent successes in the region, highlighting the commitment of law enforcement to address drug-related issues.
As investigations continue, “Benjie” remains in police custody, facing charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Authorities are working to identify other individuals linked to his operations, aiming to curb the spread of illegal drugs in the province.
Municipal leaders in Silay have expressed their support for the PNP’s efforts, pledging to strengthen community-based programs aimed at drug prevention and rehabilitation. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to create safer, drug-free communities in Negros Occidental.
