BACOLOD CITY – Classes in all levels have been suspended in the municipality due to increased volcanic activity at Mt. Kanlaon. The decision was made following an advisory from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), which reported a surge in volcanic-tectonic earthquakes and other signs of unrest.
Residents in the upper barangays within the four-kilometer permanent danger zone have been advised to avoid entering or staying in the area. The local government urged everyone to stay safe and be vigilant.
Phivolcs also reported rumbling sounds and strong sulfur fumes in nearby cities. The agency warned that the current seismic activity could lead to an eruption and an increase in the alert level.
In response to the increased volcanic activity, the local government has activated its disaster response plans and is closely monitoring the situation. Emergency response teams are on standby to provide assistance if needed. Residents are advised to be prepared and to follow the instructions of local authorities.
