CEBU CITY – To ensure the safety of travelers during the Undas 2024 in Central Visayas, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) will intensify operations against unaccredited tourist vans known as “colorum,” an official said on Monday.
Glen Galario, regional director of LTO-7, said the agency has activated the “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Undas 2024” and part of the measure is to ensure that no colorum vehicles could travel during the observance of the All Souls and All Saints Day.
“We urge the riding public never to patronize colorum vehicles because, aside from operating without legal documents, these vehicles are not inspected, meaning we cannot guarantee their roadworthiness,” Galario said in a statement.
They would also deploy personnel to different bus stations in the province to check the roadworthiness of buses.
“Today, October 28, marks the official start of our Oplan Biyaheng Ayos for Undas 2024, which will run until November 4. In the days leading up to November 1 and 2, our personnel will inspect all public vehicles at terminals across the region to ensure they are roadworthy,” Galario said.
Random roadside inspections in all provinces of Central Visayas would ensure that public utility vehicle drivers are compliant.
During the pre-Oplan operations on October 21 to 25, a total of 122 public utility vehicles passed the inspection conducted by LTO personnel, while nine passenger buses were advised to correct the defects identified during the ocular check-up. (PNA)
