Four Commonwealth Avenue Lanes to Close Overnight October 24–25 for MRT-7 Construction

Motorists traveling along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City should prepare for temporary traffic restrictions this weekend as four eastbound lanes between Amity Street and Ilang-Ilang Street will be closed to accommodate construction activities for Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7). According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and SMC Mass Rail Transit 7 Inc., the closure will begin at 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, and continue until 4 a.m. on Sunday, October 25. The five-hour restriction will allow construction teams to safely unload and lift escalators for the ongoing railway project.

Despite the temporary closure, two lanes along the eastbound service road will remain accessible to motorists throughout the operation. Drivers passing through the affected section are advised to use the designated service road, follow traffic signs, and anticipate possible delays near the construction area. The overnight schedule is intended to reduce disruption to regular daytime traffic while allowing workers to carry out equipment installation. Motorists with scheduled trips during the affected hours are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and monitor further traffic advisories from transportation authorities.

The installation forms part of the continuing development of MRT-7, a planned 22.8-kilometer railway connecting North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. The government is targeting partial operations for the first 12 stations by the second quarter of 2027, while the complete 14-station line is expected to eventually shorten travel time between Quezon City and Bulacan to approximately 35 minutes. Although the temporary road closure may inconvenience commuters and motorists, the construction activity represents another step toward completing a railway intended to improve accessibility and reduce dependence on road-based transportation.
