LeBron James and 76ers Complete Historic 29-Point Comeback to Stun Cavaliers, 114-106

The Philadelphia 76ers pulled off a remarkable comeback in their home opener, overcoming a 29-point deficit to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 114-106, on Thursday, October 22 (Friday, Philippine time). Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 32 points, while Joel Embiid contributed 24 as the Sixers turned a disastrous first half into their second consecutive victory of the 2026–27 NBA season. Making his home debut for Philadelphia, LeBron James recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds, while fellow newcomer Jaylen Brown added 21 points in a victory that marked the biggest comeback of James’ NBA career.

Cleveland dominated the opening half, building a commanding 69-45 halftime lead behind Donovan Mitchell, who finished with 32 points and 10 rebounds. However, Philadelphia transformed the game after the break, outscoring the Cavaliers 69-37 in the second half. Embiid gave the Sixers their first lead at 96-95 with under seven minutes remaining, before Philadelphia unleashed a decisive 15-0 fourth-quarter run to complete the turnaround. Brown delivered crucial baskets down the stretch as Cleveland struggled to regain control, despite entering the second half with a seemingly comfortable advantage.

The victory improved Philadelphia’s record to 2-0, following its season-opening win over defending NBA champion New York Knicks. For James, the result carried added significance as he faced his former team in front of his new home crowd, while Maxey and Embiid demonstrated their ability to lead a high-powered offense alongside the franchise’s star additions. The comeback was also Philadelphia’s largest since detailed play-by-play records began in the 1997–98 season, providing an early statement from a revamped Sixers squad looking to establish itself among the Eastern Conference’s leading contenders.
