A farmer was found dead in a river in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, after an apparent accident involving an improvised electrofishing device.

The victim, identified as 43-year-old Armando Valentin, was reported missing after he failed to return home on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. His wife alerted authorities when he did not come back the following morning.

After two days of searching, Valentin’s lifeless body was discovered on Saturday, December 14, still holding the electrofishing device.

Police suspect that Valentin was electrocuted by the device he used, which likely caused him to drown. Authorities have ruled out foul play in his death.
