DMW unveils new logo

MANILA – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has unveiled Tuesday its new logo symbolizing its commitment to supporting Filipino workers overseas.

“The DMW logo embodies the wisdom, the courage, the dignity of our OFWs [overseas Filipino workers] under the Tahanan ng OFWs Worldwide,” DMW Undersecretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay said at the launch of the Overseas Labor Market Situationer (OLMS) in Makati City.

She said the red and blue shapes depict hands that reflect the agency’s assistance and guidance while the rising sun signifies hope and better opportunities for OFWs.

“Our new logo encapsulates the mission of the DMW to offer hope and new opportunities for OFWs, while the seven rays represent the seven government offices merged under the DMW,” Tutay said.

These agencies are the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the International Labor Affairs Bureau, the Philippine Overseas Labor Offices under the Department of Labor and Employment, the National Maritime Polytechnic, the National Reintegration Center for OFWs under the Overases Workers Welfare Administration, and the Office of the Social Welfare Attaché under the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Tutay said the colors of the hands combined with the sun and the stars form the colors of the Philippine flag, symbolizing unity and national pride.

The families left behind by the OFWs are represented in white, which tells of the sacrifices of Filipino workers to leave the country and work abroad.

Meanwhile, the OFW is represented by the yellow mark, depicting a story of courage and determination.

Migrant Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the logo was designed by John Jaeffer Javier, a freelance graphic artist and family member of an OFW working as a mechanic in Saudi Arabia.

The design emerged as the winner of the competition opened in November 2023.

Cacdac said the new logo would be prominently featured on the DMW’s official communications, including its website, social media platforms, and in all the future advocacy campaigns of the department. (PNA)
