BI opens ‘OFW wing’ at Naia T3 to speed up immigration processing

In a bid to improve service for departing migrant workers, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has launched a dedicated “OFW wing” at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3. The new area, which opened on Wednesday, aims to streamline immigration formalities for overseas Filipino workers by reducing processing delays.

Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado detailed that the expansion includes six additional immigration counters staffed by 12 officers. “This new wing underscores our commitment to ensuring a smooth and efficient departure process for our modern-day heroes,” he said in a statement. Viado emphasized that the measure is intended to alleviate congestion, particularly during peak travel seasons and long holidays, thus shortening queues not only for OFWs but also for other passengers processed at the airport.

The BI’s initiative comes as a response to the high volume of OFWs, averaging more than 3,400 daily departures from NAIA. The dedicated processing area is expected to cut waiting times and make the immigration process more convenient for those leaving the country for work abroad.

Viado acknowledged the support received from the Department of Migrant Workers and the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. in realizing this project. He noted that the improved facilities align with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision to enhance services for overseas Filipino workers, recognizing their crucial role in bolstering the country’s economy.
