The CIDG has served a subpoena duces tecum on Sen. Ronald โ€œBatoโ€ dela Rosa in connection with its drug war investigationโ€”and they didnโ€™t just send it to one address. Police operatives served it at his Davao residence and again at his Senate office on Monday, with a directive for him to appear on May 14 (Thursday), 10:00 a.m., at Camp Crame.

In Davao, CIDG said they tried to personally serve it at his home in Monteritz Subdivision, Brgy. Matina Crossing, but Dela Rosa wasnโ€™t there. So they went for substituted serviceโ€”leaving the document with his caretaker, Frederick Johnson, after โ€œreasonable effortsโ€ were made to locate him.

When CIDG brought the subpoena to Dela Rosaโ€™s Senate office, the senatorโ€™s staff refused to signโ€”citing โ€œinstructions.โ€ CIDGโ€™s chief investigator, Capt. Larry Ray, said it still counts on their end because the staff accepted the copy, signed or not.

This subpoena isnโ€™t just a โ€œshow upโ€ noticeโ€”it also demands documents/records tied to the probe. And CIDG didnโ€™t mince words on the consequence: non-compliance without valid justification can open the door to an indirect contempt case. The subpoena leans on RA 10973, the law signed in 2018 that authorizes the PNP chief and CIDG leadership to issue subpoenas in CIDG investigations.
