Series of typhoons affect 85.4K families in 5 regions

MANILA – Families affected by Typhoons Nika (international name Toraji) and Ofel (Usagi) now number 85, 415 in five regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.

This figure is significantly higher than the 52, 551 families reported Wednesday.

The 85, 415 families, according to the NDRRMC situational report, consist of 309,518 persons residing in 1, 189 barangays in the Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol, and Cordillera regions.

About 8, 676 families, or 26, 923 individuals, are being aided in 367 evacuation centers while another 5, 653 families, or 19, 572 persons, are being assisted outside evacuation centers.

There are still no reports of confirmed casualties for the two typhoons as of posting.

However, the NDRRMC is still validating reports that two persons were injured in Central Luzon due to the effects of these weather disturbances.

Houses damaged were placed at 2, 394 in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Cordillera, while infrastructure damage was estimated at PHP 320, 658, 974.36, all in Central Luzon.

There are no reports of agriculture damage as of posting. (PNA)
