MANILA – Most of the country will experience rains on Friday due to three prevailing weather systems.
The low pressure area (LPA) located over the coastal waters of Mahinog, Camiguin as of 3 a.m. will cause scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said this LPA, formerly Tropical Depression Querubin, has a medium chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours.
“It could possibly develop into a tropical cyclone by Sunday, while it is heading outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility,” forecaster Obet Badrina said.
The LPA and the shear line, however, are forecast to bring heavy to intense rains over Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, and Southern Leyte.
They will also cause moderate to heavy rains over Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Aklan, Capiz, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Cebu, Bohol, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Agusan del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.
PAGASA forecasts that the shear line affecting the eastern section of Southern Luzon will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, Quezon, and the rest of Mimaropa.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” affecting the rest of Luzon will bring rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora, and isolated light rains over the rest of Luzon.
The northern and western sections of Northern Luzon will experience strong winds and rough seas.
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters will prevail across the Visayas and the rest of Luzon.
Mindanao will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (PNA)
