Preparing for Generation Beta – A Filipino perspective

By Michelle Ducut

As the world anticipates the emergence of Generation Beta, born from 2025 onwards, it’s time for Filipinos to reflect on how we can better equip the next generation for the future. While Generation Alpha (2010–2024) is already navigating a world defined by rapid technological advances, environmental crises, and shifting social norms, Generation Beta will face even greater challenges—and opportunities—in a more interconnected and complex global landscape.

For Filipino families, education has always been the cornerstone of preparing children for a better life. However, in the context of Generation Beta, traditional approaches to learning will need to adapt. With technology poised to dominate every aspect of life, from work to social interactions, digital literacy and critical thinking skills will be paramount. The Philippines must invest more in accessible and quality education, ensuring that children from all socioeconomic backgrounds are equipped with the tools to thrive in a technology-driven world.

At the same time, Filipino values such as bayanihan (community spirit) and paggalang (respect) will play a crucial role in grounding Generation Beta amid rapid changes. In an era of artificial intelligence and hyper-connectivity, fostering empathy and a sense of community will be essential. Parents, educators, and leaders must work together to instill these values, ensuring that technological advancements do not come at the cost of human connection and moral integrity.

Moreover, the environmental challenges facing Generation Beta are significant, with climate change posing existential threats to their future. Filipino youth must be educated about sustainability and empowered to take action. From integrating climate education into school curricula to fostering green innovation, it is imperative for the Philippines to prepare Generation Beta to become stewards of the environment.

The rise of Generation Beta is not just about the future; it’s about the actions we take today. By blending modern education with timeless Filipino values and prioritizing sustainability, we can ensure that this new generation is not only ready to face the challenges ahead but also capable of leading the Philippines into a brighter and more resilient future.
