Post-Holy Week travel continues as commuters return to Metro Manila

Travel resumed on April 21 at key transport terminals and roads as passengers continued their return to Metro Manila following the Holy Week break.

At the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), passengers began arriving early in the morning for trips to and from the provinces. Terminal management said they expect passenger traffic to remain steady until Wednesday.

Some travelers opted to avoid the Holy Week rush by delaying their trips. Passenger Virgie Balicha said it was preferable to travel after the holiday due to lighter crowds. Another commuter, Marissa Sarmiento, noted that although there were fewer passengers, delays were still encountered during her return trip from Pangasinan.

In Batangas Port, large crowds were observed in the arrival and ticketing areas, particularly for trips to Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro. Passenger buildup was also reported inside the ticketing booths, with more travelers expected later in the day.

Traffic volume remained high along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), where congestion was reported at the cash lanes of the Bocaue toll plaza, according to authorities.

Rail operations also resumed on Monday. The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) were back in service following scheduled maintenance from March 28 to April 20. The Department of Transportation earlier advised commuters of the temporary suspension for system checks and repairs during Holy Week.

Transport authorities continued to monitor the situation at terminals, seaports, and major highways as post-holiday travel proceeded across Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
