Camp BGen Oscar M. Florendo – A sealed light blue plastic pack containing shabu with an estimated value of P 6.8 million was found floating along the coastal waters of Barangay Dili, Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur.

According to a report from the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), two local fishermen turned over a vacuum-sealed transparent plastic pack containing a white crystalline substance labeled with Chinese characters to the Sta. Cruz police authorities on November 3, 2024.

The pack was discovered approximately 30 nautical miles off the coast of Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur.

Following proper protocol, the pack was submitted to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office 1 at Camp Diego Silang in Carlatan, San Fernando City, La Union, for forensic analysis.

On November 4, the Chemistry Report confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine hydrochloride, with a total weight of 1, 000.40 grams and a Standard Drug Price of P 6, 802, 720.

In light of this discovery, PBGen Lou Evangelista, PRO 1 Regional Director, urged local fishermen and residents to report similar incidents to the authorities.

“By fostering collaboration among local communities and law enforcement agencies, we can significantly enhance the safety and security of the Ilocos Region. Together, we can create a safer environment for everyone. Sama-sama tayo para sa Ligtas na Bagong Pilipinas,” he said.
