Northern Mindanao to lead nationwide bamboo planting under ‘Kawayanihan’

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 10 (Northern Mindanao) is set to spearhead a nationwide bamboo planting initiative under the “Kawayanihan” program.

Joshua Robin, DOST-10 focal person, said in a statement Tuesday that the event, scheduled for October 18, would attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the “Most People Planting Bamboo Simultaneously (multiple venues).”

Bukidnon 1st District Rep. Jose Manuel F. Alba will lead the region’s GWR attempt, which seeks to involve policymakers, local governments, national agencies, educational institutions, and private entities. The effort aims to raise awareness about bamboo’s economic potential and promote sustainability.

“The results of the attempt will be announced on November 28, 2024, at Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro, during the 2024 National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week celebration, coinciding with the launch of the DOST Circular Economy Program,” Robin said.

The “Kawayanihan” initiative involves the DOST and more than 30 institutions nationwide. (PNA)
