New Year-related fires in Malabon

The Malabon City government responded to a few fire incidents affecting both residential and commercial areas in time with the New Year celebrations. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that these incidents are currently under investigation to determine their causes.

In Barangay Potrero, a fire broke out in two warehouses on Engineering Road. The blaze began around 1:00 AM on January 1, 2024, reaching the third alarm before being declared under control by 7:47 AM. The warehouses contained shopping parcel items and garments, contributing to the fire’s rapid spread.

The estimated damage from the warehouse fires is approximately PhP250 million. Employees reported noticing smoke shortly after midnight, coinciding with New Year’s fireworks celebrations. Despite initial attempts to control the fire with extinguishers, the flames quickly intensified.

Additionally, a residential fire occurred in Barangay Panhulo on December 31, 2023. The BFP raised the first alarm at 9:12 PM, deploying three fire trucks. The fire was declared under control at 9:24 PM and extinguished by 9:26 PM. No casualties were reported in either incident.
