Manila officials provide aid to Tondo fire victims

On January 7, 2025, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto, accompanied by the Pamilyang Asenso ManileƱo, distributed financial assistance and relief goods to families affected by a recent fire in Barangay 123, Tondo, Manila. The Manila Department of Social Welfare collaborated with the local government to address the immediate needs of the displaced families.

The fire, which occurred on December 30, 2024, resulted in the tragic loss of five children and the destruction of multiple homes. The Bureau of Fire Protection reported that the blaze reached the third alarm before being brought under control. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

In response to the disaster, each affected family received ₱10,000 in financial assistance, along with essential relief items such as food packs, hygiene kits, and sleeping mats. Mayor Lacuna emphasized the city’s commitment to providing continuous support to the victims as they work to rebuild their lives. She also urged residents to exercise caution and adhere to fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The local government has set up temporary shelters for the displaced families and is coordinating with national agencies to facilitate the provision of additional assistance, including housing materials and livelihood support. Community members and private organizations have been encouraged to extend further aid to those affected by the tragedy.
