Lacson urges national leaders: ‘Resolve political tensions’

By Sam Ramos

Former senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday called on the nation’s top leaders to take immediate action to de-escalate political tensions, emphasizing the need for unity to safeguard the country’s stability and progress.

Speaking at the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. (AmCham Philippines) thanksgiving and election of the Board of Governors in Davao City, Lacson highlighted the negative impact of political conflicts on national interests, including investor confidence.

“Let’s not be entertained by this turmoil, this political noise. Let’s find a way to intercede in our small way to de-escalate the already very tense situation,” Lacson said, urging both citizens and leaders to contribute to easing tensions.

He noted concerns raised by members of AmCham Philippines about how the ongoing political feud could deter potential investors. “If I were a potential investor in this country and witnessing all this ruckus, I might have second thoughts about investing,” he quoted from his discussion with the organization’s executive director.

Lacson specifically called on Senate President Chiz Escudero and other key leaders to mediate and facilitate a dialogue between the conflicting parties. “I hope the other leaders of the country, specifically Senate President Chiz Escudero, find a way for the two leaders to talk. Ceasefire muna, tama na muna (Ceasefire for now, let’s stop this),” he appealed.

Despite the current political challenges, Lacson expressed confidence in the resilience of the Filipino people and the nation. “We have undergone several challenges in the past and were able to pull through. All conflicts, challenges, and issues can be resolved,” he said.

The call for unity comes amid growing concerns over political divisiveness in the Philippines, which experts warn could impact economic stability and international perception. Lacson’s remarks underscore the urgency of collaboration among leaders to address the situation for the benefit of the nation.
