Filipino motorists could face another round of mixed fuel price adjustments next week, with diesel prices projected to increase by ₱2 to ₱2.50 per liter, while gasoline prices may decline by ₱1 to ₱1.50 per liter. The preliminary estimates, attributed to Jetti Petroleum president Leo Bellas, come amid continued volatility in international oil markets, where geopolitical tensions and concerns over fuel supply have contributed to uncertainty over petroleum prices.
The projected diesel increase comes as global energy markets remain sensitive to reported Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabian infrastructure and shipping routes, raising concerns about potential disruptions to oil production and transportation. Such developments can affect the cost of fuel imports, although gasoline and diesel prices do not always move in the same direction because of differences in supply, demand, and refining conditions. Diesel is particularly important to public transportation, freight operations, and agricultural activities, making sustained price increases a concern for businesses and consumers.
If implemented, the adjustments could increase operating expenses for jeepney drivers, logistics companies, and other diesel-dependent sectors, while offering some savings to motorists using gasoline-powered vehicles. However, the projected amounts are not yet final, as local oil companies typically announce official price changes after assessing international trading movements and foreign exchange rates. The final adjustments for the week beginning October 27 will determine the actual impact on transportation costs and household expenses.
