House leaders deliver P850-M aid to Bicol

By Michelle Ducut

House Speaker Martin Romualdez and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Zaldy Co led a relief mission to the Bicol Region on Thursday, November 21, 2024, to provide nearly P850 million in aid to residents affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and Super Typhoon Pepito.

The “Tabang Bicol, Tindog Oragon” program aims to assist 170,000 beneficiaries across the region. The aid includes food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), financial support for shelter assistance, and immediate assistance for families in crisis.

Romualdez and Co visited the provinces of Catanduanes and Albay, as well as Naga City and Pili in Camarines Sur, to oversee the distribution of relief goods and cash assistance.

During their visit, the House leaders discussed potential long-term solutions to address the region’s recurring flooding issues. Romualdez proposed the construction of water-impounding facilities in flood-prone areas, which could serve as both flood mitigation and irrigation systems.

Co expressed gratitude for the House’s support for the Bicol Region and reaffirmed his commitment to working with the leadership to ensure the region’s recovery and development.
