Commuters get a small Independence Day break this year: MRT-3 will offer free rides on Friday, June 12, but only during two time windows.
According to the DOTr–MRT-3 advisory, all MRT-3 stations will waive fares from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., then again from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.—basically timed for the morning and evening rush.
The rail operator framed it as part of the Independence Day celebration, encouraging Filipinos to mark the holiday together while moving around the city without paying fare.
June 12 is a regular holiday nationwide, so expect heavier foot traffic at stations—especially if people plan errands, family visits, or city activities around the free-ride hours.
