Faith over fear—or politics? God’s will vs House vote on May 11

Vice President Sara Duterte isn’t pretending she controls what happens next. From The Hague, Netherlands, she said the outcome of her impeachment case is already “written by God”—and whether she gets impeached or not, she’s leaving it to faith, not fear. At the same time, she thanked supporters and took a direct swipe at the process, calling the impeachment push “fabricated” and claiming it’s being backed by certain lawmakers.

Back home, the House committee on justice has already moved the case forward. The panel unanimously approved a report containing the Articles of Impeachment, and House leadership has now given all 318 members a short window—until Sunday—to study the articles before the plenary vote set for May 11. That vote will decide whether the complaint reaches the next stage.

Sara won’t be physically in the Philippines for that moment. Her overseas trip runs until May 15, with stops after the Netherlands listed as South Korea, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom—meaning the House vote will happen while she’s still abroad. The timing adds another layer to the optics: major political proceedings moving forward while the respondent is out of the country.

One thing she singled out as “unfair”: dragging her family into the fight. That comment comes after impeachment discussions mentioned her husband Manases Carpio, following statements that bank accounts tied to them were flagged for covered and suspicious transactions totaling ₱6.77 billion. The VP’s message is clear: she’s framing the case as political, the spillover as personal, and the endgame as something bigger than Congress.
