The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is gearing up to host the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) in Northern Mindanao from November 27 to December 1. This year’s event will focus on the circular economy, highlighting DOST’s commitment to sustainable development and innovation.
Dr. Romela Ratilla, DOST-10 director, emphasized the importance of a circular economy, citing the recent Guinness World Record attempt for bamboo seedling planting as a prime example. This initiative underscores the potential of bamboo in various innovations and its role in climate change adaptation.
The NSTW theme, “Siyensya, Teknolohiya, at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Kinabukasan,” aligns with the event’s focus on sustainable practices. The event is expected to attract over 10,000 participants, including government officials, industry leaders, students, and the general public.
A series of forums will be held at the Luxe Hotel and other venues, covering various topics related to science, technology, and innovation. Additionally, a large-scale expo at Limketkai Center will showcase over 150 technologies and innovations, including the NuLab: STEM in Motion roving laboratory, the Mobile Modular Food Processing Facility, and the Mobile Command and Control Vehicle.
On November 28, DOST will present its Circular Economy Program for smart communities and recognize partners involved in the world-record bamboo planting effort. Awards will also be given to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to science, technology, and innovation.
