MANILA – The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday paid tribute to persons with disabilities during the flag raising ceremony in observance of the upcoming International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3.
Gracing the event as guest of honor was National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) Executive Director Glenda Relova who delivered the keynote message.
“Together, let us continue to amplify the voices of the vulnerable, break down barriers of exclusion and uphold the values that make justice the foundation of our shared humanity,” she said.
Relova said this year’s theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” serves as a testament to remind everyone of the critical role of PWDs in nation building.
DOJ Assistant Secretary Randolph Pascasio, meanwhile, reaffirmed the DOJ’s all-out support and appreciation to PWDs working in the agency for their indispensable efforts in the administration of justice.
“Your DOJ has always recognized the significant contribution of PWDs to society. In our midst, we have around 151 persons with disabilities demonstrating dedication and diligence in their work, contributing to the success of our department,” he said.
He said the DOJ’s compliance with accessibility laws and other legislations affecting disabled persons was also recognized in the recently concluded Disability Compliance Audit last November 25.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, for his part, called on his fellow workers in government stressing to “continue fighting for what is right by defending the weak, advocate equality and inclusivity by supporting and crafting policies that empower disabled persons.”
“Let us not forget that the true essence of the rule of law is by giving justice to those who most need it the most,” Remulla said. (PNA)
