The City Health Office (CHO) has commenced a free vaccination drive against influenza and pneumonia, prioritizing senior citizens, individuals with comorbidities, and front-liners at local health centers.
CHO head Dr. Tomas Ababon announced that the vaccination schedules, which started earlier this week, will run until December 20. Residents are encouraged to visit the nearest health centers for the service.
The influenza vaccine is available for residents aged 18 and above, with priority given to high-risk groups. However, the pneumococcal vaccine is limited to senior citizens due to a restricted supply.
“The vaccines will also be available to city government employees at Osmeña Park from December 18 to 20. Walk-ins from priority groups are welcome, and vaccines will be distributed while supplies last,” Ababon said in a statement issued through the City Information Office on Thursday.
The city has received 2,900 vials of influenza vaccines for distribution.
Dr. Ababon highlighted the importance of flu vaccines in preventing severe complications, especially for vulnerable groups. He also noted that pneumococcal vaccines provide protection against bacteria responsible for pneumococcal diseases. Residents are urged to take advantage of the free vaccination program.
