The Cebu City Police Office hosted an Anti-Cybercrime and Online Scams Seminar on November 27, 2024, to address the growing threats of cybercrime and internet fraud in the region.

The seminar, held at the Molave Ballroom of One Central Hotel, brought together Station Commanders (PS1-11), Investigators, Intelligence Officers, and DICTM Focal Persons from the Cebu City Police Office. The event aimed to enhance the capacity of law enforcement officers to detect, investigate, and prevent cybercrimes, particularly those targeting individuals through social media and other digital platforms.

PLT Mark Anthony Freluces, Team Leader of the Cebu Cyber Response Team and a member of the Regional Anti-Cyber Crime Unit-7, served as the keynote speaker. He discussed emerging trends in cybercrime, methods used by cybercriminals, and strategies for preventing online scams.

Participants were trained on recognizing scams, understanding how cybercriminals operate, and utilizing available resources to assist victims and prosecute offenders. Practical guidance was provided on identifying fraudulent activities and responding effectively to cybercrime cases.

The seminar is part of the Philippine National Police’s broader efforts to combat the rise in online fraud and cybercrime, which have become significant concerns globally, including in the Philippines. The Cebu City Police Office emphasized its commitment to equipping its personnel with the skills and tools needed to safeguard the public in an increasingly digital environment.
