Camiguin rolls out ‘AKAP’ rice subsidy program for low-income households

The province of Camiguin has launched the Ayuda Para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP), a rice subsidy initiative aimed at providing affordable rice to low-income households. Registration for beneficiaries began on Tuesday in Mambajao town, with plans to extend the program to other municipalities in the coming weeks.

Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo announced that the program seeks to improve food security for families earning minimum or below-minimum wages. “This program ensures that low-income families can access affordable rice, easing the burden of food expenses,” he said in a statement.

Under AKAP, registered beneficiaries can purchase rice at subsidized rates from accredited stores. The initiative is expected to benefit households struggling with rising food costs while supporting the provincial government’s goal of ensuring food affordability for all residents.

Camiguin’s local government has prioritized addressing food insecurity through initiatives like AKAP, reflecting broader national efforts to combat hunger and improve access to staple goods across the Philippines.
