Calamba forms body to promote gender-sensitive policies, programs

By Matthew Go

The local government of Calamba, through its Gender and Development (GAD) Office, has launched a Local Media Board (LMB) aimed at promoting gender-sensitive policies and combating gender bias. The board was formalized during a meeting on November 20, 2024, at Monte Vista Hotel and Resort, with the involvement of local and national media, university communication professors, city information officers, and NGOs.

The LMB will collaborate with various sectors to address gender stereotypes and promote inclusivity. Mayor Roseller Rizal will chair the board, with City Councilors Lian Aldabe-Cortez and Alvin Manguiat serving as vice chairs. The Information, Investment Promotions, and Employment Services Office (IIPESO) will manage program linkages, while the academe will focus on research and policy evaluation.

An initial budget of PHP 1 million has been allocated for the board under the 2025 Annual Investment Plan, forming part of the larger PHP 250-million GAD appropriation for the year.
