Boy Scouts of the Philippines suspends outdoor activities nationwide following Zamboanga City electrocution incident

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) has imposed a nationwide suspension of all outdoor scouting activities after three scouts died from electrocution in Zamboanga City.

The incident occurred on December 12, 2024, at a campsite on Mount Abong-Abong in Barangay Pasonanca, where a group of scouts accidentally moved a canopy into contact with a live electrical wire, resulting in three fatalities.

In response, the BSP issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and announced the moratorium to reassess safety protocols. BSP National President and Agusan del Norte 2nd District Representative Dale Corvera shared the statement, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all scouts.

The BSP is collaborating with authorities to investigate the incident and has urged the public to respect the privacy of the affected families during this time. The organization also called on everyone to refrain from spreading unverified information and assured that it is ready to extend all possible assistance to the victims, their families, and the survivors.

The suspension will remain in effect until a comprehensive review of safety measures is completed to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
