LEGAZPI CITY – The Bicol Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) is preparing for the disaster response to be provided to provinces highly affected by Super Typhoon Pepito (international name Man-yi).
In a meeting conducted on Sunday, Bicol RDDRMC and Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-Bicol Regional Director Claudio Yucot said the team would provide food, non-food, medicine, and water to Catanduanes and Camarines Norte provinces.
“We are now assessing the damage caused by Super Typhoon Pepito in the provinces in the region. We will provide additional jerry cans and solar lamps, as needed since some areas don’t have electricity. Shelter kits will be provided also,” he said.
The Department of Health (DOH) will provide medicines; the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will ensure clearing operations on the national and local roads in the island province; the Philippine National Police, together with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Philippine Coast Guard will provide the human power needed for the relief operations, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development will provide needed food and non-food items.
Yucot added that the assistance would be sent through roll on-roll off (RoRo) vessels and by air with the help of the Philippine Airforce-Tactical Operation Group (PAF-TOG)-Bicol.
Yucot said no casualties were recorded based on the initial report submitted.
“We want to ensure our public that all concerned agencies of the government are doing their best to provide needed aid,” he said.
The Maharliha Highways passing through the four provinces are clear and passable, Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 (Bicol) Regional Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon reported.
“As per provincial directors of Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte are all clear,” he said in a message to the Bicol RDRRMC. (PNA)
