The Bacolod City Veterinary Office (CVO) has concluded its 2024 vaccination campaigns, focusing on the immunization of pets and livestock against diseases such as rabies, canine parvovirus, and other preventable illnesses.
The CVO conducted large-scale vaccination drives throughout the year, targeting household pets and livestock. The rabies vaccination campaign immunized thousands of dogs and cats, while other vaccinations addressed diseases like canine distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis, foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), and brucellosis.
The CVO reported that over hundreds of animals, including pets and livestock, were vaccinated in 2024. The initiative aims to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases, including rabies, which is a priority for the Department of Health (DOH) as the Philippines works toward eliminating the disease by 2025.
The campaigns included mobile vaccination units deployed to barangays to reach underserved communities. The CVO also collaborated with local veterinary clinics and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to ensure wider access to vaccinations.
Public information campaigns were conducted to raise awareness about the importance of vaccinations and responsible pet ownership. The initiatives aimed to address issues of accessibility and encourage community participation.
The vaccination efforts are part of Bacolod City’s ongoing programs to promote animal health and prevent zoonotic diseases. The CVO continues to align its activities with national goals for rabies control and other public health measures.
