Bacolod City distributes ladderized centenarian payout to beneficiaries

By Xander Ledesma

In a heartwarming demonstration of support for the elderly, Bacolod City recently distributed Php 10,000 each to 98 centenarians from four barangays. This payout is part of the city’s Ladderized Centenarian Payout program, an initiative led by Mayor Albee Benitez to honor and provide for elderly citizens who have reached the remarkable milestone of 100 years of age.

The beneficiaries, coming from Barangays Bata, Mandalagan, Handumanan, and Felisa, were all present for the ceremony. City Councilors Celia Flor and Em Ang also attended to personally congratulate the centenarians and their families, underscoring the significance of the occasion.

The Ladderized Centenarian Payout program aims to recognize and financially assist senior citizens who have turned 100. Each centenarian receives Php 10,000 as a gesture of respect and gratitude for their contributions to the community. This initiative is part of Bacolod City’s broader strategy to improve the quality of life for the elderly and to ensure that they receive the recognition they deserve for their long lives.

The program reflects the local government’s commitment to supporting the elderly, acknowledging their enduring strength and contributions to society. The payout is a measure taken to provide economic relief and celebrate these exceptional individuals, who have lived through numerous decades of significant historical, political, and social changes.

The Ladderized Centenarian Payout program is more than just a financial gesture; it showcases the city’s commitment to the well-being and dignity of its elderly citizens. In a rapidly changing world, ensuring that the elderly are not left behind is a critical aspect of social development. The program not only provides financial assistance but also fosters community solidarity by honoring the lives of those who have witnessed the city’s growth and evolution.

Mayor Albee Benitez, a strong advocate for the welfare of senior citizens, expressed his pride in being able to support the centenarians through this initiative.

The distribution of the Ladderized Centenarian Payout occurred in simple yet meaningful ceremonies held in each of the beneficiary barangays. The local government, in partnership with barangay officials, ensured that the payouts reached each centenarian directly, with local councilors and officials personally handing over the checks to the recipients.

Councilors Celia Flor and Em Ang were actively involved in the ceremony, extending their congratulations and delivering the payouts. Their presence served as a powerful reminder of the city’s ongoing commitment to the elderly, highlighting the importance of community solidarity and care.

Bacolod City, known for its warm and welcoming community, has long advocated for elderly care. Programs like the Ladderized Centenarian Payout reflect the city’s efforts to foster a culture of respect for its older population. The Philippines has made significant strides in supporting its senior citizens, particularly with the *Senior Citizens Act* passed in 2010, which provides a range of benefits, including discounts, tax exemptions, and financial support.

Bacolod City, in particular, has been recognized for its comprehensive approach to senior care, offering various initiatives that include health services, pensions, and social programs aimed at ensuring that the elderly are well-supported in their later years. The Ladderized Centenarian Payout program is just one of the many ways Bacolod continues to uphold its commitment to elderly citizens.
