Bacolod City has been officially recognized as a Creative City by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Thames International, an honor that places the city among a select group of global cities renowned for their dynamic creative sectors. This recognition, announced on November 1, 2024, highlights Bacolod’s vibrant arts, culture, and entrepreneurial ecosystem, paving the way for further economic growth.

As part of the Innovation and Creative Entrepreneurship Program, the Creative Cities initiative is designed to promote innovation by supporting local arts, culture, and creative industries. Bacolod’s designation as a Creative City underscores the city’s efforts to harness its cultural heritage, local artistry, and entrepreneurial spirit to foster sustainable development. The city’s creative sectors, from its annual MassKara Festival to its local arts scene and culinary innovations, played a significant role in securing the title.

Bacolod has long been known for its rich cultural traditions, which include a strong arts community and a history of vibrant local festivals. The MassKara Festival, a prime example of the city’s creativity, attracts thousands of visitors each year with its colorful street performances and intricate mask designs. This cultural wealth, combined with a growing number of innovative local businesses, makes Bacolod an attractive destination for both entrepreneurs and tourists.

The Creative City designation is expected to spur further economic development by fostering a culture of innovation. The DTI and Thames International will collaborate with local officials to implement initiatives that support the growth of creative industries. These initiatives include entrepreneurship training, mentorship for artists, and programs designed to facilitate collaboration between business and creative sectors. By leveraging its cultural assets, Bacolod aims to not only boost its economy but also create more opportunities for its residents.

This recognition marks the beginning of a new chapter for Bacolod, one where creativity and innovation drive sustainable growth. With the city’s potential now amplified on the global stage, Bacolod’s future as a hub for creative industries looks brighter than ever.
