92-year-old from masbate crafts his own mahogany coffin

In a unique expression of self-reliance and foresight, a 92-year-old man from Masbate has crafted his own coffin, using mahogany and a design of his own creation. When asked why, he shared that it’s about planning for the future, not about any morbid fascination. “It’s to ease my family’s burden,” he explained, dismissing superstitions that see it as bad luck.

Visitors who find it unsettling are assured by his calm outlook: “There’s no reason to fear,” he says, showing his acceptance of life’s inevitable end. His decision has sparked local conversations, encouraging others to consider how they, too, might approach aging and legacy. His story provides a glimpse into cultural attitudes toward death, where preparations for one’s passing are typically managed by family members.

Through his act, this man highlights his dedication to self-sufficiency and his wish to leave behind minimal responsibility. It’s a message that resonates with many, showing that acceptance, rather than fear, can define the final stages of life.
