The Philippines stepped back into the global spotlight this weekend with three World Travel Awards (WTA) titles โ€” a clean sweep that reaffirms the countryโ€™s growing stature as a heavyweight in world tourism. For the seventh straight year, the country clinched Worldโ€™s Leading Dive Destination, while Manila defended its crown as Worldโ€™s Leading City Destination for the third time. And in the luxury arena, Boracay kept its grip on the Worldโ€™s Leading Luxury Island Destination title for the second year running.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco hailed the wins as proof of the industryโ€™s depth โ€” from the countryโ€™s unmatched marine ecosystems to the cultural and culinary revival happening in the capital, down to the polished high-end service in Boracay. She credited the victories to the โ€œnationโ€™s tourism workforce,โ€ recognizing LGUs, community guides, resort operators, transport partners, and cultural workers whose day-to-day efforts shape the visitor experience.

The Philippines outperformed 11 global contenders for the dive title, edging out powerhouses like Belize, Australiaโ€™s Great Barrier Reef, Fiji, and the Galapagos Islands. The DOT said the back-to-back dominance reflects the countryโ€™s role as a โ€œmarine biodiversity hub,โ€ powered by dedicated dive operators, conservation partners, and coastal communities who protect the waters that travelers fly across the world to explore.

Manilaโ€™s repeat win as a top city destination came after beating an elite lineup that included New York, London, Lisbon, Dubai, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Cape Town โ€” a nod to the capitalโ€™s rising cultural scene, revamped heritage zones, expanding food landscape, and improving readiness for major global events. Boracayโ€™s luxury title, meanwhile, highlights its sustainability push, upgraded visitor management, and continued reinvention as a premier island escape blending pristine beaches with five-star experiences.

For a country pushing toward a more competitive, resilient tourism landscape, this triple win is more than a badge โ€” itโ€™s momentum. A reminder that even as global travel evolves, the Philippines continues to punch above its weight.
