Zamboanga’s Paseo skate park reopens with festive inauguration

The City Government of Zamboanga officially reopened the newly renovated BMX and Skate Park at Paseo del Mar on Saturday, November 23, which will cater for local skateboarders and BMX riders. Closed since the transition of government at the end of former Mayor Beng Climaco’s administration, the park is now accessible to the public, drawing enthusiastic responses from the community.

Designed to provide a dedicated space for skateboarders and BMX riders to practice and showcase their skills, the revamped facility promotes an active lifestyle and encourages community engagement among enthusiasts of all ages. Open from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, the park is free to use.

The inauguration started with a blessing ceremony led by Rev. Fr. Filmore Calibo, who prayed for the safety of park users, followed by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to mark the official reopening. To celebrate the occasion, a competition for BMX riders and skateboarders was held, drawing around 50 skateboarders and 15 BMX riders. Participants performed intricate tricks and maneuvers, showcasing their talents and building camaraderie through friendly competition.

For the said competition, around 50 skateboarders and 15 BMX riders showcased their talents, demonstrating tricks and skills on the newly renovated facility.

Mayor John Dalipe expressed his full support for the skateboarding and BMX communities, as this rehabilitated park reflects the city’s vision of fostering inclusivity and camaraderie among youth, offering them a safe and welcoming space to express their passion.

Present during the event were OIC Police City Director PCOL Kimberly Molitas, Executive Assistant Roy Albert Venus, Paseo del Mar in-charge Joey Wee, and representatives from the City Administrator’s Office, to name a few.

Mayor Dalipe highlighted the park’s importance during her speech at the event. She noted that the park is not merely a recreational space but a testament to the city’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and youth development. Dalipe expressed her hopes that the park would serve as a safe and inspiring environment for young people to hone their skills, form friendships, and channel their creativity.
