As part of Taguig City’s “18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW),” women riders gathered at the Lakeshore Hall on December 6 for a seminar aimed at promoting road safety and empowering women through legal education and advocacy.
Titled “Ride with Purpose,” the event focused on equipping women riders with basic knowledge to navigate roads safely while understanding their rights under laws that protect them from violence and discrimination.
The seminar was organized by the Taguig Gender and Development Office (GAD) in collaboration with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the City Executive Legal Office (CELO), underscoring Taguig City’s commitment to creating a safer, more empowering community for women.
Participants engaged in discussions led by experts, including a session on Road Safety Guidelines presented by MMDA Traffic Operation Officer I Miguel Panal, and a talk on the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262) facilitated by Atty. Bill Mar Zinampan from CELO.
In her message, Mayor Lani Cayetano emphasized the importance of education in ensuring safety: “Thank you for responding to the invitation of the City Government of Taguig to attend this seminar, which aims to equip you with valuable knowledge for your daily journeys on the road. I hope that when you return to your regular activities, you will share the knowledge you’ve gained with others. In this way, you not only protect yourselves but also contribute to the safety of others.”
