Veloso’s sister reportedly abused by employer going home next week

MANILA – Mary Jane Veloso’s sister, reportedly abused sexually by her employer in Saudi Arabia, will be repatriated earlier than expected.

Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac on Thursday confirmed that Veloso’s sister is arriving next week.

“Originally, it was promised to the family that she would be brought home before Christmas, but the Migrant Workers Office is now working to facilitate her return as soon as next week,” Cacdac said in a statement.

Cacdac visited the Veloso family on November 23 after the Indonesian government allowed Mary Jane to be transferred back to the Philippines.

It was during his visit that he learned about the situation of Mary Jane’s sister and promised the family to immediately repatriate her.

Veloso’s parents, meanwhile, expressed
gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the Philippine government anew for another positive development.

Additionally, Cacdac promised to provide psychosocial counseling for Veloso’s eldest son, Daniel, as well as skills training through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, along with financial help.

DMW also distributed TESDA training vouchers to the Veloso family. (PNA)
