Urban leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region gathered in Iloilo City to discuss strategies for building resilient and sustainable cities in the face of climate change.
The 44th CityNet Executive Committee Meeting, hosted by Iloilo City, brought together representatives from various cities to share experiences and best practices. CityNet, a leading network of urban stakeholders, has been promoting sustainable urban development in the region for decades.
Vijay Jagannathan, Secretary-General of CityNet, emphasized the urgent need for cities to prioritize climate change adaptation and mitigation. He noted that city leaders are increasingly recognizing the serious threat posed by climate change and are taking steps to develop climate-resilient urban plans.
Iloilo City was highlighted as a model for effective urban planning, as the city’s proactive approach to disaster preparedness helped mitigate the impact of Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.
The meeting focused on various topics, including climate leadership, workforce development, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By sharing knowledge and experiences, participants aimed to strengthen the capacity of cities to address climate challenges and create sustainable urban futures.
