A joint buy-bust operation led by the Cebu City Drug Enforcement Office, the Intelligence Unit of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office 7, and the Waterfront Police Station 3 resulted in the arrest of two high-value drug suspects. The operation occurred on November 29, 2024, in Barangay Tejero, Cebu City. Â
The suspects, known as “Ay-Ay,” a 34-year-old woman, and “Bagmon,” a 33-year-old man, reside in Barangay Tejero. Authorities reported that both individuals were engaged in the sale of illegal drugs not just in Barangay Tejero but also in three major cities in Cebu, including the City of Talisay. Investigations revealed that the suspects managed to sell up to one kilogram of illegal drugs weekly. Â
During the operation, law enforcement recovered buy-bust money and a red backpack containing suspected illegal drugs from the suspects. Both suspects were promptly taken into custody and are currently being held at Waterfront Police Station 3. They are facing charges under Sections 5 and 11 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (Republic Act No. 9165), which pertain to the sale and possession of illegal drugs. Â
This successful operation is part of ongoing initiatives by local law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in Cebu City and its surrounding areas. Officials have highlighted the significance of collaborative operations in addressing high-level drug trafficking networks, which greatly influence public safety and security. Â
The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 was implemented to enhance the country’s efforts against illegal drugs and to impose more severe penalties on those involved in drug-related activities. Under this law, individuals convicted of selling or distributing illegal drugs face harsh penalties, including life imprisonment and hefty fines. Â
The capture of these suspects underscores the ongoing dedication of Cebu City authorities to disrupt drug operations and ensure the safety of local communities. Â
