Transportation sector ready for ‘Undas’ 2024

MANILA – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and its attached agencies are prepared for the expected influx of travelers for the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2.

In a Palace press briefing Monday, DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said transport agencies have made all necessary preparations in anticipation of the increased volume of passengers at airports, seaports and bus terminals.

“Every year, we have this Oplan Biyaheng Ayos (safe trip) para sa ating mga mananakay. So, ready tayo. Katulong din natin diyan ang Philippine Coast Guard (Every year we have those Oplan Biyaheng Ayos for our passengers. So, we are ready. The Philippine Coast Guard is also helping us),” Bautista said.

Bautista said around four million of passengers are expected to travel to various provinces this week.

“Actually, millions ‘yung tinitingnan natin. Every year naman millions ‘yung estimate natin. Siguro ‘yun lang bus passengers lang natin aabutin ‘yan mga 1 to 1.5 million passengers. Airports and seaports siguro easy diyan mga 3 million ang magbi-biyahe (Actually, we are looking at millions. Our estimate is millions every year. Maybe that’s the only bus passengers we will reach, that’s about 1 to 1.5 million passengers. Airports and seaports are probably easy, about 3 million will travel there),” he said, when asked about the expected number of travelers.

All airports and seaports in the country are already operational following Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami), although some minor seaports in Calabarzon and Bicol Region sustained damages worth around PhP 100 million, Bautista said. (PNA)
