Three injured in New Year revelry in Caraga

The Department of Health in the Caraga Region (DOH-13) reported seven firecracker-related injuries from December 1, 2024, to January 1, 2025, with three incidents recorded during New Year celebrations from December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025.

According to a report on Thursday, five of the seven victims were minors, aged 8 to 12, who sustained wounds and burn injuries. The youngest, an eight-year-old boy from Sison town, Surigao del Norte, suffered a lacerated wound on his upper lip caused by a firecracker known as “Lata de Cañon.” The oldest, a 46-year-old man from Trento town, Agusan del Sur, sustained an eye injury caused by a “Picolo” firecracker.

Among the injured, three cases were recorded in Agusan del Sur, two in Surigao del Norte, and one each in Surigao del Sur and Butuan City.

The DOH-13 confirmed that all victims received medical treatment and were discharged from the hospital.
