Taguig Mayor Cayetano seeks 2nd term

MANILA – Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano vowed to further enhance the city’s services if she secures a fresh mandate in next year’s midterm elections.

Cayetano made the pledge as she filed her certificate of candidacy for a second term at Taguig Convention Center on Monday.

“Sa akin po hindi kagustuhan ng politiko (it is not the desire of the politician) but the will of the people. You know in Taguig, we conduct regular surveys, it’s to guide us kung ano ang mga disenyo ng mga programang binibigay natin sa (what will be the design of our programs that we will provide to the) public and if you get an approval rating, a satisfaction rating of 91 percent, even if I say I still want, pero kung ang pulso ng mga tao ay hindi, (hindi) dapat isantabi na natin ‘yun (but whatever the pulse of the public is, it should not be shoved aside),” Cayetano said in an interview.

She added that the people’s will must be observed and respected at all times.

“Inexpress nila sa pamamagitan ng (they express this by showing) warmth whenever we go around. They express it on social media, they express it sa anumang (in whatever) avenue, they write letters, they send emails just to communicate, they really appreciate their government, they appreciate the services, and the type of service that we give to our constituents,” she added.

Cayetano’s running mate is incumbent Vice Mayor Arvin Alit.

Running under Cayetano’s ticket for the congressional seats of 1st and 2nd Districts are Ading Cruz and Jorge Bocobo, respectively.

Earlier, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) approved the inclusion of villages under 10 Enlisted Men’s Barrios (Embo) in the two legislative districts.

Comembo, Pembo and Rizal will be included in the 1st district; while Cembo, South Cembo, East Rembo, West Rembo, Pitogo, Post Proper Northside and Post Proper Southside will be part of the 2nd district, according to the resolution promulgated September 25.

At the same time, Comelec increased the number of seats for the Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council) from eight to 12. (PNA)
